Harena Grenache 2024
Bronze Medal
McLaren Vale Wine Show
95+ Points
From Brookman's Road Vineyard, Blewitt Springs. Half the ferment saw 20% whole bunches: 12 months in French oak, 80% second fill, the remainder seasoned. A warmer year than the last release ('22, with '23 not made), but a more savoury wine, with less of those ebullient red fruits and more detail, tannins structured, with the coolness of bunch adding herb/spice detail and complexing the grip. Raspberry, cherry and the like, in the red-fruited zone. Some rhubarb, white pepper, graphite - controlled, channeled, composed, then explosive through the back palate, with a low-gear rumble of old-vine fruit.

Lifted aromas of dark cherry, dried herbs, violets, spice and a brambly earthiness. Juicy, mid-weighted and mouth filling, with plenty of dark fruits, textured tannins and shapely acidity. Long and with layers of complexity.

The 2024 Harena Grenache is a savory, almost meaty Grenache. While there is an abundance of sweet red fruit, it is countered by a hung deli meat/bloody character that shapes the experience. The tannins are gritty and a little sticky, and this is the lasting impression through the finish.
