Jester Cabernet Sauvignon - 2021
91 Points
From a cracking vintage for the McLaren Vale region, the wine spent a year maturing in a mix of 80% French oak hogsheads and 20% American oak hogsheads. A deep red colour here, the nose swirls about with a mix of tobacco leaves, animal fur, soy and cola, warm earth, cloves and black fruits, all the while with a leathery undertow. A wine of medium length, good concentration and abundant tannins, this will drink well now and at any time over the next eight years. Has the generosity one can see in some warm climate Cabs. Anyone buying this wine will not think they have wasted their money.

Dark fruited aromas, along with dried herbs, bramble, earth and tobacco. Juicy, fleshy, black fruited and opulent in flavour. Firm tannins and bright acidity keep it all in shape.

Off Biscay clays with limestone deposits in Whites Valley. Like the shiraz in this range, there’s ample intensity of fruit and palate weight, but it has varietal integrity and stops short of heaviness. Classic herbal leafiness, cassis, blackberry and some savoury tobacco, celery salt and clove notes. It’s flavoursome, varietal and the price tag is more than fair.
