Masso Montepulciano 2024
93+ Points
From the Lopresti Ridgehaven vineyard, with 15 months in 70/30% French/American oak, with a proportion second-fill. There are still some oak notes coming out of those barrels, but they’re met with a cascading wave of fruit. Not to excess, but there’s ripeness and depth. Preserved black cherry, boysenberry, hardy herbs, spent coffee, caramel, clove, cedar and tobacco leaf. The palate is silkily textural, with resolved, refined tannins and a finish of good length. It will be interesting to see this in a year or two.

An inky deep purple in the glass, with a nose of black cherry compote, milk chocolate, roasted coffee beans and clovey cedar. Concentrated and velvety in a medium bodied frame, with a zing of acidity to lift. Fine dusty tannins to finish, with a savoury wet graphite note lingering.
