Intensely aromatic with a bouquet of blackcurrant, cassis, graphite and an array of florals. Intense and powerful, the palate mirrors the nose with layers of ripe black fruit, clove and cinnamon spice, and those typical G.A.M. characters of dark chocolate and mocha. These opulent flavours are supported by ripe tannins and a distinctive iodine like acidity.
Winemaking
Destemmed and crushed to two tonne open fermenters, pumped over twice daily for 10 days. The individual ferments were kept cool (between 20 and 24˚C) to preserve colour, bright fruit characters and aromatics. Once pressed, the wine was then transferred to French hogsheads, of which 60% were new. The wine was matured in oak for 14 months after which each barrel was considered for the final G.A.M. blend.
Vineyard
Lopresti Home Block Vineyard - Flour Mill Road, Whites Valley, McLaren Vale.
Located in close proximity to the Gulf of St Vincent in the Whites Valley district of McLaren Vale between the towns of Willunga and Aldinga. Black and grey Biscay clays predominate, sitting over alluvial Ngaltinga formation. Sea breezes mediate day time heat while the cracking clays reduce vigour during the critical ripening period. These factors help to produce a wine of depth and concentration
