Beautifully poised, the palate displays notes of raspberry, rhubarb, citrus peel, and a subtle leafy character adding to its complexity. A charming wine framed by succulent acidity and a svelte tannin structure, it finishes long and precise.
Winemaking
Grapes were hand harvested and delivered to the winery for gentle destemming. Fermented in small open fermenters with pump overs twice daily and temperatures around 25˚C. Ferment maceration lasted 10 days with a further 6 days post ferment for a total of 16 days on skins. Pressed and transferred with lees to 2nd use French oak hogs heads with malolactic fermentation occurring naturally in barrel. Unfined with light filtration only prior to bottling.
Vineyard
Whisson Lake Vineyard – Gully Road, Carey Gully, Adelaide Hills.
Located high in the Adelaide Hills, with altitude above 600m and an East facing aspect, the Whisson Lake Vineyard at Carey Gully is the ideal place to grow premium Pinot Noir. Soils derived from the schist and gneiss bedrock, with low nutrient value and good water holding capacity support vine balance and carry the fruit through the summer. The gully itself runs north-south and funnels cool southerly breezes across the vineyard, thereby avoiding excessive summer heat.
