Of the Wind Chardonnay 2022

Story

The name ‘Of the Wind’ is reflective of its Adelaide Hills site where breezes off Lake Alexandrina assert the vineyard’s cool climate.

Tasting Note

Aromas of nectarine, white peach and pear appear, with hints of cashew and toast. Yellow stone fruit continues on the palate, flowing into honeydew melon with blanched almond and undertones of Sicilian olives. A thread of fine talcy minerality is enveloped in a sleek, almost waxy texture, while racy acidity carries tension and poise through the palate.

Vinification

Hand harvested, whole bunch pressed to an extraction of 650 litres/tonne and chilled in tank to 4˚C. Barrel fermented on full solids by wild and inoculated strains in 25% new and 75% seasoned French Oak Hogs Head barrels. 100% malolactic fermentation and 11 months maturation in barrel with regular lees stirring throughout. Unfined with sterile filtration at bottling.

The cool climate, southern Adelaide Hills Longview Vineyard supplied fruit for the 2022 Of The Wind Chardonnay. An elevation of 300 to 350 meters, a southerly aspect and temperatures mediated by southerly breezes off of Lake Alexandrina assert the vineyard’s cool climate and help to retain acidity and fruit purity.
