Tasting Note

Full bodied and concentrated, it balances richness of fruit with finely judged use of French oak. It displays intense flavours of black plum, cassis, clove and dark cocoa, with hints of red fruit on the close, all backed by savoury tannin structure and mouth-watering acidity.

Hand harvested, destemmed and crushed to 2 tonne open top fermenters, pumped over twice daily for 14 days. The ferment was kept cool (18-22°C) throughout in an attempt to extract the tannin, colour and flavour very softly. Once pressed, the wine was transferred to 90% new French Hogs Heads for natural malolactic fermentation and 16 Months maturation. The final blend is clarified by racking only, and bottled without fining or filtration.

Lopresti Home Block Vineyard - Flour Mill Road, Whites Valley, McLaren Vale.

Lopresti Home Block, less than 2 kilometers from the coastal town of Aldinga and only 4 kilometers from the beach itself. Ngaltinga Formation derived alluvial grey sandy clay and biscay soils with pockets of sand interbeds. These highly reputed soils maintain soil moisture during the growing season but dry out in summer which helps to control vine vigour and concentrate flavours in the fruit. Savitar fruit is taken from a particularly rocky section in the North East section of this block. Cooling sea breezes off the Gulf of St Vincent cool the vineyard and help to retain freshness and vibrancy.
