The Real Review - Mitolo Wines reviews

Huon Hooke & Stuart Knox, January 2023

Jester Grenache 2020
92 Points
Medium-light red with a decent tint of purple, the aromas fragrant and sweetly ripe, laced with spice notes, the palate medium bodied at best and smoothly rounded with supple tannins and delicious succulence. A gorgeous grenache, drinking well now and with quite a few years left in it. Keen value, too.

Cinquecento Sangiovese 2020
91 Points
Deep red/tile colour with the merest tinge of purple, the savoury bouquet showing some walnutty oak, earthy and dried-herb nuances too. It's a fuller bodied version with some alcohol warmth and chewy tannin in the aftertaste. A big, ripe style which remains true to the grape variety.

Masso Montepulciano 2021
91 Points
Deep red-purple colour; with dry roasted nut aromas overlying black fruits and brown spice nuances. Full-bodied with abundant tannins which dry the palate and add a firm grip to the finish. Robust and gutsy red wine.

Jester Malbec 2021
90 Points
Electric purple colour. Glass staining. Fresh, raw and very ripe aromas of sundry dark fruits and graphite with a banana young-wine overtone. Full bodied and well endowed with tannin giving it a drying, firm but not astringent texture. A touch raw but has plenty of potential to soften off, mellow and build a bit of complexity. Long, long carry with generous but balanced alcohol.

La Spiaggia Sparkling Glera 2022
89 Points
Ultra-pale lemon with a creamy mousse building. Green apples and sea spray aromatics. Bright and fresh with clean green apple fruit, a light bead, and a moment of freshening saline acidity. Reasonable length and crisp to the finish.

Ourea Sagrantino 2020
89 Points
Deep colour, still with a good tint of purple, the aromas inky and concentrated, dense and powerful as is the palate. Masses of drying tannins dominate the palate. A whopper which demands a rare steak.
