Vintage 2023 Update
Excitement is in the air at Mitolo with vintage officially commencing in McLaren Vale last week.
After a cool and slow start to the growing season with plenty of rains, the sun is now shining on McLaren Vale. Warm days and cool nights have set in since early February, and the vines are enjoying favourable ripening conditions.
The weather has kept us on our toes in the lead up to picking, with several days of temperatures in the high 30s speeding up the ripening process.
Glera was the first to be picked while Vermentino and Sangiovese will be harvested in the coming days. As they ripen, we're seeing generous stone fruit flavours and a crunchy acidity in the Vermentino and freshness and ample poise in the Sangiovese fruit.
The majority of red varieties are still a couple of weeks away – Shiraz yields in particular are projecting lower than average, but are showing great promise with excellent flavour development and a fineness of tannin.
