Wine Advocate Reviews

ERIN LARKIN - October 2022

2019 SAVITAR SHIRAZ
95 POINTS
The 2019 Savitar Shiraz was my pick of the bunch. This is serious, precise and driven and, again, sourced from Whites Valley, as is the 2019 GAM Shiraz. The maturation rolls out in 100% French oak. The extract here is savory and firm; the fruit is driven by tannins, and they really screw down the fruit and compress it in the glass. It’s tight. One can see that the longevity of this wine may outweigh that of the others, making it quite a layered and exciting wine to drink—certainly now, but in the future too.

2020 ANGELA SHIRAZ
94 POINTS
The 2020 Small Batch Series Angela Shiraz is made in an aromatic style: it is perfumed and elegant. The fruit is sourced from the southern part of the Vale. In the mouth, the wine sings with blue fruits and vibrancy. It has notes of deli meat, aniseed, blackberry and plush fruit—powerful and neat. This is quite lovely, with coulis and pink peppercorn— moreish.

2019 G.A.M. SHIRAZ
93 POINTS
The 2019 G.A.M. Shiraz is a classic McLaren Shiraz: it is chocolaty, textural and fleshy and sourced from Whites Valley— a tiny pocket. The softness in the mouth becomes more clear once we know there is a little bit of American oak in the maturation mix. This is plush and intense, bloody and ferrous yet quite fine through the finish. It is earthy and open-knit. Smart. Savoury

2020 7th SON GRENACHE SHIRAZ SAGRANTINO
92 POINTS
The seventh son of the seventh son, from Middle Eastern lore: the chosen one. The 2020 7th Son Grenache Shiraz Sagrantino is a blend of 60% Grenache, 34% Shiraz and 6% Sagrantino (it adds gravitas and intensity to the wine). This is generous and fleshy. This 2020 has Grenache from Sellicks Hill and Blewitt Springs. The fruit was picked, fermented and matured separately. No new oak in Grenache or Sagrantino, the Shiraz has a small proportion of new oak. The wine is lush, plush and pretty, with a framework of savory aniseed tannin.
