Jester Cabernet Sauvignon - 2020
93 Points
Splendidly fruited and fragrant with blackcurrant, thyme, clove and roasted nut aromas on the nose, it's succulent and supple in the mouth offering fine flow backed by chalky tannins. Structured and harmonious with a sustained robust finish. At its best: now to 2030.

The winemaking at this address has become far more attuned to region, site and style, not to mention contemporary demands for lighter, more vital wines. While this, as with its shiraz brethren, is rich and impactful, there is a welcome freshness. The tannins here, not quite as well shaped. But for the price, savoury and nourishing all the same.

This wine, from a McLaren Vale vineyard, spent 13 months in a mix of older French (80%) and American (20%) oak hogsheads. A garnet red, the nose offers notes of smoked meats, warm earth, bay leaves, redcurrants and cigar box characters. This is made in an earthy, even slightly rustic, style, with a mix of red and black fruits. A soft and generous palate with ripe flavours, this is a wine of medium length which will provide pleasure for the next three to four years.
