Angela Shiraz 2021

Story

A stylistically perfumed and elegant shiraz, this wine is a tribute to Angela, the matriarch of the Mitolo family.

Tasting Note

Vibrant and aromatic with blue fruits, red cherry, blood plum and sweet spices. Layers of plush, silky tannins support the fruit on the palate. Notes of Danish pastry and vanilla pod add to the wine’s allure, while smooth texture and vibrant acidity define a lush and succulent finish.

Winemaking

Destemmed and crushed into 8 tonne open and static fermenters, with twice daily pumpovers throughout ferment. Temperatures were kept cool, between 20 and 24°C, to encourage a soft tannin structure and plush mouthfeel while retaining fruit aromatics. Once pressed, the wine was transferred to 10% new French, 5% new American and 85% seasoned oak Hogs Heads, undergoing natural malolactic fermentation and barrel maturation for 20 months. The final wine was bottled without fining and received only light filtration. 

Vineyard

Lopresti Sandra’s Block Vineyard – Hahn Road, Aldinga, McLaren Vale. 

The site, atop Ngaltinga Formation, is characterised by its dark to very dark brown, well-structured and free draining clay loam soils. Sea breezes from the Gulf St Vincent mediate day time heat during the critical ripening period. These elements serve to elevate aromatics, retain vibrancy, and encourage silky tannins in the fruit
