Story

The life of the party, the instigator of frivolity, the undying entertainer. A modern-day jester gathers friends around regularly to eat and drink well, and much like their medieval predecessors, reminds us that life shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

Tasting Note

Bright and sweet red fruit perfumes, a soft, smooth and plush palate with light body and gentle tannins. Fleshy red cherry, raspberry and pomegranate crunch, fine mineral undertones, and touches of clove and cinnamon stick. Succulent, balanced acidity ties in harmoniously with the wine's fleshy fruit profile, making for juicy and moreish drinking.      

Winemaking

Destemmed and crushed to a static fermenter and pumped over twice daily throughout ferment. Temperatures were kept cool, between 20 and 24ºC, to retain fruit vibrancy and ensure a soft tannin structure. After ferment the wine was pressed off and matured on lees in 80% French and 20% American seasoned oak hogshead barrels for 6 months, with natural malolactic fermentation occurring during this time. After maturation the wine was racked off lees and crossflow filtered prior to bottling. No Finings were used. 

Vineyard

Joe’s Block - Hahn Road, Sellicks Hill Located in the southern McLaren Vale district of Sellicks Hill, less than 3 kilometres from the coastline. 

The site, Ngaltinga Formation, is characterised by its dark to very dark brown, well-structured and free draining clay loam soils. Sea breezes from the Gulf St Vincent mediate day time heat during the critical ripening period. These elements serve to elevate aromatics, retain vibrancy, and encourage silky tannins in the fruit.
