This is an apogee of modern styling, without any forfeit of varietal personality, be it the frisk of tannins or flirt of freshness. Dried red cherry, lilac and anise brushed with thyme, sage and mint. The tannins, expansive, spindly and so refined. The oak, present yet an adjunct to the greater mould. Damn! Long and energetic. 93 Points The 2020 Cinquecento Sangiovese is spicy, supple and concentrated, with cherry kirsch, dried herbs (bay leaf and thyme), black pudding and lashings of pink peppercorns. The finish is where the ripeness feels quite overt—it has a poached plum taste to close. I like the tannins very much—they are fine and tightly knit. There's a core of clarity/freshness within the heart of the fruit, and I like that very much. It's like biting into a summer cherry pie. Nicely done. 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
