Jester Shiraz - 2020
92 POINTS
A solid house wine with plenty of flavour, good value, nicely managed tannins and a whiff of tradition within a more contemporary-styled package. Dark cherry, plum, lilac, iodine, a smear of olive and a trail of peppery freshness. Thoroughly impressive at the price.

Sweetly ripe and fragrant, the bouquet shows dark plum, cherry, mixed spice and toasted nut aromas. The palate delivers juicy fruit intensity combined with rounded mouthfeel and supple texture, finishing lingering and silky. At its best: now to 2028.

The chunky 2020 Jester Shiraz is well designed to enjoy young, thanks to upfront layers of sweet blackberry and primary blueberry fruits. A soft, supple palate follows with reserved flavours and slightly firm tannins that draw out the finish.

Is easy to understand. It is, simply, a diminutive version of the preceding wine (2019 G.A.M. Shiraz). With lovely freshness and saltiness (think salted caramel), coupled with hints of tapenade and black cherries over deep wells of blackberry fruit, there is so much bravado and polish here for twenty quid it is incredible. It might take me a while to get over the artwork change on the label, but I cannot get enough of the wine inside.
