Jester Vermentino - 2021
SILVER MEDAL
2021 McLaren Vale Wine Show
92 POINTS
Bright, fresh and elegantly aromatic, the delightfully expressed bouquet shows nectarine, crunchy apple, apricot and lemon peel aromas. The palate delivers fine texture and vibrant fruit flavours together with zest acidity, finishing long and crisp-dry. At its best: now to 2024.

Vermentino is one of the great white hopes for white wines in warmer climate regions. This grape variety, best known for what it does in Sardinia, absolutely laps up the hot sun and dry conditions, and also makes delicious, food friendly wines. If you are not on the Vermentino train, the time is now. This is a good vintage from Mitolo with a traditionally pale colour before launching into melon, citrus pith and faintly floral aromas. There is a delicacy here but also plenty of power. The palate is then dry and tangy, citrus and more nutty flavours are well balanced with crisp acidity. Refreshment value is high so ideal for drinking in the sun, especially with a classic match of sardines drizzled in lemon juice and fresh herbs.

Texture is key. This is somewhere neutral in flavour though there are lemonade and general citrus characters here, juice and leaf, and it is mouthwateringly fresh. But the gentle grip as it rolls through the mouth elevates it, and invites you back for more. Thumbs up. It’s a nice wine.
