Jester Vermentino - 2023
92 Points
It's delicately lifted on the nose, showing green apple, fig, lemon zest and white floral nuances, leading to a tightly structured palate offering fine focused backed by linear mouthfeel, finishing lingering and mouth-watering. At its best: now to 2028.

A vermentino that combines its natural zinginess with a nice textural touch, lemony mandarin peel aromas with a trace of pear. The tightly held palate delivers with a succulent crunchy flavour intensity that drives through to a long finish. Minerally and slightly chalky. Neatly made wine.

Vermentino is this crispy, refreshing ultimate summer white. And here it is. Slippery-chalky texture, with plenty of citrus, white nectarine crunch and yellow grapefruit happy bitterness to end. It’s fruity, it’s floral. And it’s as good as it gets.

Plenty of drive here, capitalising on the Italian grape variety’s naturally high level of acidity. Brings quince, lime, lemon, green apple, green pear together against a background of delicate apple blossom florals. Flavours sprint to a long, steely, succulent finish, revealing some nice developing textural qualities along the way across the middle palate. Plenty of acid sizzle with a touch of the grape’s noted phenolic bitter grip on display. One to be enjoyed with food.

A brisk, lighter weighted wine with pungent, herbaceous aromatics flecked with guava, pistachio and nashi pear. The acidity, mercifully saline and maritime, negating any sense of excessive sweet fruit.

Water-white appearance; elusive and straightforward, fresh young-wine aroma of herbs and white pepper; palate delicate and dry, crisp and refreshing, not complex but bright and focused, piercing and quite long on the finish.

This fulfils the brief for those wanting a crisp Italianate white built for summer days and seafood – oysters, spaghetti vongole, flash-fried calamari with rocket and the like. Tart apple, lemon pith and soft herbs feature on a tightly aromatic nose, with saline notes and a savoury almond character closing out on the refreshingly lightweight and gently pithy palate.
