Perduto Pecorino 2024
93 Points
From the Lopresti vineyard in Whites Valley, fermented cool in tank on heavy lees, then matured on fermentation lees for seven months with regular stirring. Like the ’23, this is heady with orchard fruits and florals, a sea spray brininess overlaying – pink apple and lime, citrus blossom, green pear, lemon pith, a pumice-like mineral note. Also like the year prior (the first release), the acidity is vigorous, as per the varietal remit, but the connectivity here from front to back elevates this, as does the pithiness, so keenly pitched.

Aromas of lemon confit, guavas, melon and green apples. The palate is light- to medium-bodied with bright acidity and a tense mouthfeel that gives a salty and minerally finish. Densely packed with focus and purity. Drink now.

The 2024 Pecorino Perduto is one of a growing number of Australian examples of this variety. It displays a curious mix of melon and apple aromas lifted by touches of earth and smoke. Tangy acidity jumpstarts citrusy flavors, with subtle floral tones and gentle grip providing depth to the lingering finish.
