Scylla Nero d'Avola - 2019
94 POINTS (5 STARS)
Sweetly fruited and attractively fragrant, the bouquet shows mulberry, plum, tapenade, thyme and toasted nut characters. It’s succulent and flavoursome on the palate, offering excellent fruit intensity backed by spicy nuances, finishing long and silky. At its best: now to 2032.

Lovely wine to drink. Clean, fresh and fruity with just enough character to keep you interested. In fact if you want to drink Nero d’Avola from Australia then this may well be your best or most authentic bet. It’s fruity but it carries whispers of leather and balsamic, in a good way. There isn’t a lot of tannin what’s here is suede-like.

Nero d’Avola is another Italian grape variety that is becoming popular around Australia, particularly in McLaren Vale. This is a bright, pure and fruit forward style that displays this variety’s generous style – ripe dark cherry, pepper and green herb fruits provide an enticing start which is followed by a dry, mid-weight, long and supple palate with serious drinkability. Enjoy it young with gourmet sausages.

This has a baked red-plum and berry-compote nose, leading to a light, juicy palate that delivers lacy, open texture.
